Training Program to be Held in June

Maui, Hawaii – Maui’s Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Program is recruiting volunteers to be trained as advocates for abused and neglected children in the Family Court system. Interested persons must attend a 30-hour mandatory CASA training program on June 16, 18, 20, 23 and 25 in Wailuku, Maui. (Candidates must attend training on all of these dates.)

After successful completion of the training program and criminal background check, CASA volunteers will be appointed by a judge to represent a child and advocate for the child’s best interests. Volunteers will gather all pertinent information on the case, submit written recommendations to the judge, and attend court hearings on behalf of the child.

Interested candidates must be at least 20 years old and willing to commit between four to 20 hours per month working on a child’s case. Volunteers are typically assigned one case at a time and remain on that case until the child is placed in a safe and permanent home, which may take up to 18 months.
