Silbiger, the Hawaiʻi State Judiciary’s state law librarian and access to justice coordinator, began her term as the 2025–2026 president of the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) on July 23, at the conclusion of the Association’s annual meeting & conference in Portland, Oregon.

Silbiger won the national election for vice president and president-elect of AALL in October 2023. She was sworn in as vice president in July 2024 and now serves its nearly 3,700-members as president of their global organization.

“As the first AALL president residing in and working from Hawaiʻi in our 119 year history, I am honored to invite the spirit of aloha into our leadership,” said Silbiger.  “In a time of rapid change, we need to lead with empathy and collaboration to advance equitable access to justice and support the growth of our profession.  Together, guided by the core values of aloha, we can build a stronger, more inclusive legal information community.”

Silbiger brings a notable depth of experience to the role of AALL president.  In 2022 she served as president of the Hawaiʻi Library Association (HLA), stewarding the centennial celebration of HLA that year. She has also served as co-chair of the Hawaii State Bar Association’s Committee on Delivery of Legal Services to the Public, and previously chaired AALL’s Government Law Libraries Special Interest Section.  In 2022, she received the Hawaiʻi Women Lawyers’ Distinguished Service Award for her many contributions to the community both in Hawaiʻi and nationally.

Silbiger describes herself as a dedicated advocate for equitable access to legal information.  She brings a deep belief in the power of community to her role as AALL president.  During her tenure, she will focus on elevating the work of members across all types of law libraries and strengthen the profession by fostering deeper connections and knowledge-sharing throughout the community.

Silbiger is the first Korean American to lead the organization since its inception in 1906.

The American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) is the only association representing almost 3,700 law librarians and legal information professionals worldwide.  The mission of AALL is to advocate for access to legal information and support the legal information profession by cultivating the growth of its members, connecting them with each other, and championing the value of legal information and legal information professionals.
