Associate Justice Todd W. Eddins

Todd Eddins is an Associate Justice of the Hawai‘i Supreme Court.  Justice Eddins graduated from the College of William & Mary and the University of Hawai‘i’s William S. Richardson School of Law.

Justice Eddins served as a law clerk to Justice Yoshimi Hayashi of the Hawai‘i Supreme Court.  He worked as a public defender for over ten years.  Then, in private practice, he concentrated on criminal, civil, and appellate litigation, representing parties in some of Hawai‘i’s most high-profile cases.  He was lead counsel in 120 jury trials.

In 2017, Governor David Ige appointed Eddins to O‘ahu’s First Circuit Court.  In three years, Eddins presided over 85 jury trials.  In 2020,  he was nominated to the Hawai‘i Supreme Court.  The Hawai‘i Senate unanimously confirmed him, and in December 2020 Justice Eddins joined the five-member court.

Justice Eddins teaches a seminar on state constitutional law at the law school.  He often speaks on state constitutionalism, judicial independence, the rule of law, environmental law, and criminal justice issues at national and international conferences.  He is married with four children.
