Senior Family Court Judge Dyan Medeiros addresses domestic violence service providers, crime victim/survivor advocates, mental health professionals, legal professionals, educators, and domestic violence intervention program staff at the Hawaiʻi State Coalition Against Domestic Violence’s annual conference.

Senior Family Court Judge Dyan Medeiros was honored as the 2025 Community Partner of the Year by the Hawaiʻi State Coalition Against Domestic Violence (HSCADV) during its annual conference on domestic violence at the Ala Moana Hotel on July 15, 2025.

The Community Partner of the Year award recognizes an individual who demonstrates an exceptional commitment to supporting survivors and strengthening the broader network of care. According to HSCADV, the honor celebrates those who show what’s possible when “compassion meets action.”

“Our Community Partner of the Year award recognizes someone who has shown an extraordinary commitment to working alongside the domestic violence community to improve systems and outcomes for survivors,” said HSCADV Executive Director Angelina Mercado. “This year, we are honoring someone who embodies what true partnership looks like.”

Mercado praised Judge Medeiros’s leadership in the First Circuit Family Court and her ongoing collaboration with domestic violence advocates. “Her approach is marked by honesty, a willingness to engage in tough conversations, and a deep commitment to continuous learning and system improvement,” Mercado said. “We don’t always agree—and that’s the point. We listen, we learn from each other, and we keep survivors at the center of every discussion.”

Judge Medeiros was appointed to the District Family Court of the First Circuit by Chief Justice Mark E. Recktenwald in 2015 and named Senior Family Court Judge in September 2024. Before her judicial appointment, she practiced family law at Kleintop, Luria & Medeiros, LLP, where she became a partner in 2008. She also previously worked as an associate at Damon Key Leong Kupchak Hastert.

She is a graduate of the University of Hawaiʻi William S. Richardson School of Law.
