The 2019 Hawaii Access to Justice Conference, held at the University of Hawaii William S. Richardson School of Law, presented the perfect opportunity to honor Dean Avi Soifer to his dedication to the community. Chief Justice Recktenwald presented Soifer with a proclamation from the Hawaii State Judiciary thanking him “ … for the many ways in which he has increased access to justice, and advocated for those whose voices might not otherwise be heard.” Rep. Della Au Belatti, House Majority Leader, presented him with a proclamation from the House of Representatives and Associate Justice Simeon Acoba (ret.), chair of the Hawaiʻi Access to Justice Commission, presented Soifer with a certificate of appreciation.

Soifer announced recently that he will be retiring after 16 years as dean. He will remain in his current position during the search for a replacement and will continue to teach constitutional law.
