Souza Appointed Oahu District Family Court Judge

Chief Justice Mark E. Recktenwald today appointed Kevin A. Souza to the District Family Court of the First Circuit (Oahu).

Souza has served as a per diem judge in the District Family Court on Oahu since February 2012, and has a private law practice specializing in criminal defense and civil litigation. He previously served as an associate at McCorriston Miho Miller Mukai, as a senior trial attorney at the Office of the Public Defender, and as the Chief of Staff for former Lt. Governor James R. “Duke” Aiona. He is a 1997 graduate of the William S. Richardson School of Law.

The chief justice appoints District Family Court judges from a list of not less than six nominees submitted by the Judicial Selection Commission.

If confirmed by the State Senate, Souza will serve in office for six years.

Souza fills a new position created by the 2012 Legislature under Act 107, Session Laws of Hawaii.
