In commemoration of the bicentennial of President Abraham Lincoln’s birth, the King Kamehameha V Judiciary History Center will host a free program titled, “Abraham Lincoln, a President for Our Time: A Conversation on the Civil War, Emancipation, and the Constitution,” on Wednesday, January 21, at Ali`iolani Hale, 417 South King Street.

A reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by an informal discussion at 6 p.m. led by Rhode Island Supreme Court Chief Justice Frank Williams and Professor James Horton of the University of Hawaii’s American Studies Department.

Co-sponsored by the Judiciary History Center, the University of Hawai`i and the Hawai`i Council for the Humanities, the discussion will focus on Lincoln’s views of slavery, emancipation, and civil rights. It will also address the relevance of Lincoln’s presidency in contemporary American politics and the upcoming presidency of Barack Obama.
