Representatives from the Hawaii State Judiciary, the Access to Justice Commission and legal service providers have been traveling around the community to provide information and answer questions about various legal resources and programs available to those who need legal services.

On Thursday evening (November 14), Kalihi area residents were invited to an Access to Justice community briefing at Farrington High School.  Chief Justice Mark Recktenwald discussed the Judiciary’s efforts toward improving access to the judicial system, including self-help centers and access to justice rooms now available.  Associate Judge Daniel R. Foley, Chair of the Hawaii Access to Justice Commission, explained the Commission’s role and its various initiatives.

Representatives from Volunteer Legal Services Hawaii, the Mediation Center of the Pacific, Hawaii Disability Rights Center, Hawaii Appleseed Center for Law and Economic Justice and Legal Aid Society of Hawaii also made presentations and met individually with interested members of the community.

In addition to the briefing held in Kalihi, the briefings have also been held in Waianae, Makiki, Windward Oahu, and one on Maui.
