Celebrating 150 Years of Law, Civics, & Culture at Aliʻiōlani Hale

Join us at the King Kamehameha V Judiciary History Center for guided reflections on the history and legal impacts made, past and present, at Aliʻiōlani Hale – capitol building of the Hawaiian Kingdom and home to Hawaiʻi’s Supreme Court since April 30, 1874:

Doors open at 12:30 pm, with ticketed guided tours to follow at 1:00 and 2:30, in partnership with Hawaiian Mission Houses’ History Theatre. Historical figures will animate Aliʻiōlani Hale and the Judiciary History Center’s museum, sharing personal accounts from different periods of the Hawaiian Kingdom.
Reenactments feature portrayals of:
1) Emma M.B. Nakuina (1847-1929) – Curator of Hawaiʻi’s National Museum, located in Aliʻiōlani Hale, and first woman to hold the title of Water Commissioner, serving from 1892 to 1907.
2) William C. Parke (1821-1889) – Marshal of the Hawaiian Kingdom, who served as the chief law enforcement officer for 34 years under five Hawaiian Monarchs.
3) Reverend William Richards (1793-1847) – ABCFM missionary, whose teachings helped Mōʻī Kamehameha III and Kuhina Nui Kekāuluohi draft the 1839 Declaration of Rights and Constitution of 1840.
