Kauai Courthouse Closes Early Due to Water Leak

LIHUE, KAUAI — The Kauai Courthouse closed at 3:35 p.m. today due to a significant water leak. The courthouse, also known as Puuhonua Kaulike Building, is expected to be open to the public tomorrow morning.

As a result of the closure, Hawaii Supreme Court Chief Justice Mark E. Recktenwald issued an order that the time for filing items due on Oct. 7, 2019, in the Circuit, District, and District Family Courts in the Fifth Circuit, is extended to Oct. 8.

Hearings or trials cancelled due to the closure of the courthouse shall be rescheduled to the next available date with due regard for any statutory mandates.
