District Court Calendar & Parking Changes Due to Judiciary Furlough

Punchbowl Street Courthouse Parking Affected

Certain proceedings scheduled to be heard in the Honolulu, ‘Ewa, Kane`ohe and Wai`anae District Courts on O`ahu (First Circuit) have been rescheduled due to the closure of all state courthouses on Judiciary furlough days. A calendar listing all Judiciary furlough days until June 30, 2010 is available at www.courts.state.hi.us.

HONOLULU DISTRICT COURT

For Criminal cases in which there is an attorney of record, an order of rescheduling or notice will be placed in the attorney’s court jacket in Honolulu. The attorney is responsible for checking his or her court jacket and notifying the client. If there is no attorney of record, parties will be informed of their new court date by a notice mailed by court staff to the parties’ last known address.

Parties involved in Civil, Traffic Infraction and TRO cases will be mailed a notice from the court informing them of their rescheduled court dates.

If a notice of a rescheduled court date has not been received two days prior to a court date previously scheduled for a Judiciary furlough Friday in the Honolulu District Court, attorneys and parties should contact 538-5500 for Traffic cases, 538-5100 for Criminal cases, and 538-5629 for Civil cases during business hours.

‘EWA DISTRICT COURT

Court dates for Traffic and Criminal cases will remain as scheduled.

Civil cases will be rescheduled by court staff who will notify the parties by mail of their rescheduled court date. In addition, effective Nov. 5, 2009, all civil matters will be heard on Thursdays unless otherwise ordered. If a notice of a rescheduled court date has not been received two days prior to a court date previously scheduled for a Judiciary furlough Friday in the ‘Ewa Court, please call 538-5629 during business hours.

KĀNE’OHE DISTRICT COURT

Traffic and Criminal cases will be rescheduled by court staff who will place a notice in the attorney’s court jacket for cases in which there is an attorney of record. If there is no attorney of record, parties will be notified of their rescheduled court date by mail. If a notice of a rescheduled court date has not been received two days prior to a court date previously scheduled for a Judiciary furlough Friday in the Kane`ohe Court, please call 534-6300 during business hours.

Civil cases will remain as scheduled.

WAI’ANAE DISTRICT COURT

Traffic and Criminal cases will be rescheduled by court staff who will also place a notice in the attorney’s court jacket for cases in which there is an attorney of record. If there is no attorney of record, parties will be
notified of their rescheduled court date by mail. If a notice of a rescheduled court date has not been received two days prior to a court date previously scheduled for a Judiciary furlough Friday in the Wai’anae Court, please call 954-8575 during business hours.

Civil cases will remain as scheduled.

WAHIAWA DISTRICT COURT

Traffic, Criminal and Civil cases will remain as scheduled.

PARKING

From now until June 30, 2010, the O’ahu Circuit and Family Courts (Ka`ahumanu Hale) on 777 Punchbowl Street will be open on five days when the Department of Accounting and General Services is closed. Those days are:

November 27, 2009
December 24, 2009
December 31, 2009
January 15, 2010
February 12, 2010

On these days, the Department of Accounting and General Services will open its parking lot on Pohukaina and South Streets from 7 a.m.- 5 p.m.

Persons doing business or appearing for court hearings at the Honolulu District Court (Kauikeaouli Hale) at 1111 Alakea Street are advised to park at Ali`i Place (across the street from the courthouse). All rural courts have dedicated, “open” parking lots.
