225,000 Hawai`i Residents to Receive Jury Questionnaires

During the next two weeks, the Hawaii`i State Judiciary will be mailing juror questionnaires to 225,000 residents of the State of Hawai`i – 85,000 on O`ahu, 50,000 on Maui, 65,000 on Hawai`i and 25,000 on Kaua`i. Those who receive questionnaires are required to complete and return the questionnaire to the Jury Pool Office. Failure to respond may lead to penalty under the law.

The questionnaires will be used to select people eligible to serve as jurors next year, in 2010. Those who receive questionnaires are randomly selected from driver’s license, voter registration, and state income tax lists. To be eligible to serve as a juror, one must be at least 18 years old, a citizen of the United States, a resident of Hawai`i and able to read and understand the English language.
