Maui Courts Recruiting Volunteer Guardians for Abused Children

The Hawai`i State Judiciary is seeking persons to help child abuse and neglect victims by becoming a Volunteer Guardian Ad Litem (VGAL) for the Second Circuit (Maui). A 40-hour training program is tentatively scheduled for April 20, 22, 24, 27, an 29, 2009 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

VGALs are appointed by the court to represent the best interests of children in abuse or neglect cases. They also keep the court informed about the child’s welfare and the services being provided to the families.

In addition to completing the training series, volunteers must undergo criminal history and child abuse registry checks, be 20 years of age or older and be able to spend at least four hours a month working on a case.
