State Judiciary Offers Free Seminar on Protective OrdersPosted on Jan 5, 2007 in Press Releases
The Hawai`i State Judiciary will present a free program on “Protective Orders and Temporary Restraining Orders” from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, in the Supreme Court conference room. The session is designed to help persons victimized by a pattern of harassment, including physical or sexual violence, verbal threats, property damage or stalking.
Judge Jennifer Ching of the First Circuit Family Court and Judge Barbara Richardson of the First Circuit District Court will explain the process for filing these types of orders and describe what happens when parties go to court.
Ching was appointed as a Family Court judge in June 2005. She was previously a deputy prosecuting attorney for the City and County of Honolulu, and prior to that was in private practice. Judge Ching graduated from Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland.
Richardson has been a full-time District Court judge since 2000. She was previously a per diem judge, a deputy with the County of Hawai`i Office of the Corporation Counsel, and an attorney in private practice. She graduated from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
The session is part of “Lunch ‘n’ Learn the Law,” a public information series covering topics related to specific areas of the law and the courts. Volunteer presenters include judges, attorneys, court officials and other subject-matter experts.
