The Hawai`i State Judiciary is sponsoring a free public informational session, “Advance Health Care Directives,” from noon to 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 21, 2006, in the Supreme Court Conference Room, 417 South King Street. An advance directive spells out what kind of care a person would like to have if that person became unable to make his or her own medical decisions.

Guest speaker Calvin Pang has been an associate professor at the William S. Richardson School of Law for ten years, where he teaches an elder law clinic each Spring. Prior to teaching at the law school, Pang worked at several public interest law organizations, including the University of Hawai`i Elder Law Program, Legal Aid Society of Hawai`i, and the Poverty Law Center of Orange County. He has degrees in law and public health from the University of Hawai`i at Manoa and is a former Peace Corps volunteer.

Sponsored by the Judiciary, the “Lunch ‘n’ Learn the Law” program is a series of free informational seminars for the general public that feature topics relating to specific areas of the law and the courts. Volunteer presenters include judges, attorneys, court officials, and other subject-matter experts.
