Big Island Drug Court Food Drives for National Drug Court Month 2017

As part of May National Drug Court Month 2017, the Kona Drug Court held an appreciation luncheon on May 26 for all the supporters, employers, and sponsors of their Drug Court participants. In addition, thanks to the Friends of the Big Island Drug Court, KTA Superstores and the Hawaii Island Foodbank, the Kona Drug Court participants held a food drive. They successfully raised $1,121 and collected 429 pounds of food for the Foodbank.

On May 31, the Hilo Drug Court participated in a food drive for The Food Basket, Inc. They raised $916 in cash donations and collected 214 pounds of food. The food drive was chosen as the program’s National Drug Court Month community service project to give back and say thank you to the community. The Food Basket, Inc. provides for Big Island residents in need, including children from low-income or homeless families, elderly, veterans, and many addicts in the early stages of recovery.
