The Hawai`i State Judiciary is pleased to announce the availability of a new video program entitled “Tips from the Bench and Bar.”  A special project of the Hawai`i Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism, the program features Hawai`i Supreme Court justices, Intermediate Court of Appeals judges, and practitioners who frequently practice in Hawai`i appellate courts, who are interviewed on practical matters of how to handle an appeal in Hawai`i.  
        The subject areas covered include “Background:  How Cases Get to the Hawai`i Appellate Courts,” “The Importance of Making a Record in the Trial Court,” “The Rules of Appellate Procedure,” “Considerations in Selecting Issues to be Appealed and Argued,” “Written Briefs,” “Oral Argument,” and “Courtroom Etiquette, Civility, and Credibility.”  Each of the subject areas is a separate chapter, and the chapters can be accessed in any order.  
        “Our intent was to provide educational and thought-provoking conversations in which the Bench and Bar share their collective wisdom and experience, and offer tips to practitioners, law students, and members of the general public who may be interested in the appellate court process,” said Associate Justice Jim Duffy, who oversaw the project.  Duffy thanked everyone who contributed to the project, including Judge Frances Q.F. Wong (Ret.), Leo Hura (producer), `Olelo Community Television (production company), all justices, judges, and attorneys who participated, and support team members Elizabeth Kent, Mark Santoki, Deborah Murray, and Diane Chang.
