Public Required to Complete and Return Juror Questionnaires

On August 6, the Hawaii State Judiciary will begin mailing 225,000 juror questionnaires to 85,000 residents on Oahu, 50,000 on Maui, 65,000 on Hawai`i and 25,000 on Kauai.  Those who receive questionnaires must complete and return the questionnaire to the Jury Pool Office.  Anyone who fails to respond may be penalized.

Those who receive questionnaires are randomly selected from driver’s license, voter registration and state income tax lists.

The questionnaires will be used to select people eligible to serve as jurors in 2011.  To be eligible to serve as a juror, one must be at least 18 years old, a citizen of the United States, a resident of Hawaii, and able to read and understand English.
