Fujino Appointed Big Island Judge

Chief Justice Ronald T.Y. Moon appointed Melvin H. Fujino to fill the newly-established district family court judgeship in the Third Circuit (Hamakua and North/South Kohala Districts), appropriated by the 2008 Legislature under Act 102, Session Laws of Hawai`i.

Fujino is currently a deputy attorney general with the Department of the Attorney General. Before joining the Department of the Attorney General in 2007, Fujino was a supervising deputy prosecuting attorney and had been with the Kona branch of the Hawai`i County Prosecuting Attorney's Office for over five years. He received his law degree from the Gonzaga School of Law in Spokane, Washington, in 1985.

The chief justice appoints district family court judges from a list of not less than six nominees submitted by the Judicial Selection Commission.
