Courthouse Open for Public Tours on May 2

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Law Day, the Hawai`i State Judiciary will offer public tours of the Kaua`i court complex on Friday, May 2, 2008, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Visitors may tour the new customer service center, cellblock, a judicial chamber, and other areas of the courthouse not usually open to the public.

The Judiciary is sponsoring various activities throughout the state in support of Law Day, which is celebrated nationwide each year on or around May 1. Law Day is an opportunity to promote greater respect for the law and the courts.

The Legal Aid Society, Drug Court, and Kaua`i Economic Opportunity, Inc. will have informational displays in the courthouse lobby. Refreshments will be available and each visitor will receive a free Law Day commemorative gift.

Located at 3970 Ka`ana Street in Lihu`e, the courthouse is named Pu`uhonua Kaulike, which means "Sanctuary of Justice" in Hawaiian. The building opened its doors to the public on August 22, 2005 and is the Judiciary's newest facility.
