Michael K. Soong was appointed by Chief Justice Mark E. Recktenwald on September 2, 2016, to serve as District Court Judge for the island of Kauai.  Prior to his appointment Soong served as Prosecuting attorney for the County of Kauai from 1996-2004, and had been in private practice from 2004.

Previously, Soong was a Deputy Corporation Counsel on the Big Island, a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney on Kauai, and a Deputy Public Defender on Oahu and Kauai.

Soong has served as a Board Member on the Friends of the Kauai Drug Court, a past president of the Hawaii Prosecuting Attorneys Association, and a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Soong is a graduate of the Southwestern University School of Law, and was admitted to the Hawaii State Bar in 1986.
